Would you like to learn to read Picasso’s paintings? Do you feel like immersing yourself in history by walking through the Gothic Quarter?
If so, this is your private tour of Barcelona. We will visit the Picasso Museum, the only museum that Picasso created during his lifetime. It hosts the world’s largest collection of works created in Picasso’s formative years. With your licensed tour guide, you’ll also explore the Gothic Quarter which is the historic, political, and religious centre of Barcelona, the heart of the city. Visiting the Gothic Quarter is like taking a trip back in time to 2,000 years ago.
Picasso said: “Barcelona is where it all began… where I understood how far I could reach”.
But why? What happened in Barcelona?
Imagine being 13 years old and arriving in a modern, elegant city, with demographic growth, and cultural effervescence… This is what Barcelona was like in 1895 when Picasso came to this city by train.
The Picasso Museum contains paintings from different periods, allowing us to understand his artistic evolution. An artist’s material is his life, and we will discover the life of these paintings that are full of passion. We will learn to read the different painting techniques and how Picasso revolutionized modern painting.
We will start with a Gothic walking tour to discover the city’s historic centre where the Romans founded the colony “Iulia Augusta Faventia Paterna Barcino” between 15- and 13 years BC. On this Barcelona old town tour, you will discover the splendour of medieval Barcelona. We will enter buildings that can only be accessed with a Licensed Tour Guide such as El Palau del LLoctinent (The Viceroy’s Palace) El Palau Reial Major (The Royal Palace) the Roman Cistern or the Temple of Augustus.
On this tour, we will discover the history of Barcelona, the city that Picasso loved so much and why he chose to create his museum here.
